The Ranking Pill #15💊Keyword-Level CTR = Ranking Fuel 🚀

Your Weekly Dose of Game-Changing Amazon Strategies

What's inside?

👋 Hey Amazon Rockstars!

We’re not here to talk theory today.
This one’s all action.
Straight from the trenches.

We’ve been playing with the Search Query Performance Report — and no, Amazon still hasn’t given us a CTR column.
But guess what? We don’t need it.

We found a way to reverse-engineer CTR on a keyword level and the insights are 🔥.

Let’s break it down.

Is Your Amazon Strategy Actually Working?

Are you a fast-growing omni-channel brand? Do you know your Amazon profitability (and are you happy with it)?

At Cartograph, we’ve spent 7 years helping brands like OLIPOP, Starface, Rao’s, and 300+ brands in Food, Bev, Supplements, Beauty, Pet, and other categories scale profitably on Amazon.

No fluff. No bots. Click below for an Amazon audit from a real human with insights you can actually use.

🔍 Reading SQP Keyword by Keyword

Go to your Search Query Performance dashboard and select Monthly view.

Why monthly? It’s more stable, more reliable — less noisy than weekly.

Pick a keyword that really matters to your listing.

You’ll now see how your ASIN performs for that specific keyword — impressions, clicks, orders… all the juicy stuff.

Besides, you also get a list of competitor ASINs and their performance on that particular keyword.

🧮 How to Calculate CTR Without a CTR Column

Amazon doesn’t give it to you. So you DIY it:

CTR = (Clicks ÷ Impressions) × 100

Here’s how:

  • Manually copy the data into a Google Sheet

  • Add the formula in one cell, drag down and you have it. It takes some time, though…

    So, can we do better?

  • Yes!! Let’s screenshot the page, upload it to ChatGPT, and let AI do the math for you
(Yes, that’s a real pro move. Try it.)

Boom 💥

⚠️ What Low CTR Really Means

A low CTR tells you one thing: people saw your product but didn’t care enough to click.

So what can you do?

  • Upgrade your main image — grab their eyeballs

  • Add a coupon — or any juicy offer

  • Include the keyword in the image — yes, really

(We have a few tricks and tools that are quite amazing. Send us a quick email at [email protected] and we’ll send them your way)

  • Rethink your title — if that’s the first thing they see, make it count

📈 The Fix That Gets You Clicks (and Sales)

Now flip the script — if CTR is high?

✅ Double down.
✅ Push more traffic.
✅ Include that keyword in your packaging or enhanced content.

Why? Because Amazon sees shopper behavior, and CTR is a strong indicator that your product is relevant and desired.

More clicks = more sales = better rankings.
It’s that simple.

🤖 Pro Tip:

Set a weekly 15-minute “CTR Review” calendar slot.

Look at your SQP, pick a few keywords, check CTR, optimize, repeat.

It adds up — because little tweaks = compounding results.

Updated on Aug 26th: Amazon Cleans Up Variation Themes

Amazon announced they’re removing irrelevant or redundant variation themes. At first, sellers panicked—but here’s the real deal:

  • Only variation themes with zero sales in the last 12 months are being removed.

  • Critical themes like size, color, style stay untouched.

  • Your existing variations? They’ll keep working as usual. No disruption.

  • If you want to update variation families, you can—but you don’t have to.

👉 You can check the updated list of themes planned for removal here.

Bottom line: nothing to worry about if your variations are active and selling.

This is Amazon cleaning up the clutter.
